Every product featured on our bench undergoes complete assembly, structural teardowns, and acoustic profiling to deliver practical, builder-focused advice.
Specialized Editorial Ownership
Custom keyboards demand deep, specialized knowledge across distinct disciplines. We assign evaluations directly to the editor best equipped for the specific category:

What "Recommended" Means
A kit receives our recommendation only when it succeeds within its intended market bracket. An entry-level injection-molded kit does not need to sound like a solid brass custom, but it must offer clean tolerances, reliable hot-swap sockets, and a frustrating-free build process. A premium CNC aluminum kit must justify its higher cost through immaculate finishing, nuanced typing flex, and superior sound dampening.
